The Tongue

by Deborah Ann Belka

With fire and venom,
the tongue likes to spin
spewing out it's thoughts
from the hypocrisy within.

Judging one another,
but never - ever itself
the tongue is the critic
that will not die to self.

Sharp and two-edged,
it will quickly cut in half
the truth as it's known
in the wake of its wrath.

Full of nasty criticism,
with a temper not to still
the tongue is the enemy
keeping us from God's will.

Hateful and spiteful,
it's deeds are no match
to the deceit it holds
in the lies that it can hatch.

Dangerous and unsafe,
it's ambition is to destroy
jealousy is the ammunition
that it loves to employ.

With fire and venom,
the tongue likes to sin
and with its hypocrisy
your soul it wants to win!

James 3:6

"And the tongue is a fire, a world of
iniquity: so is the tongue among our
members, that it defileth the whole
body, and setteth on fire the course of
nature; and it is set on fire of hell."
