Theif

by Janet Martin © 2009

Today I stole somebody's joy
By my selfish, thoughtless deed,
I ignored their feelings
To satisfy my wicked need,
I think I called it 'justified'
And now I'm so ashamed,
Their motives I misunderstood,
Unjustly then, I blamed

Imagine if my Savior
Had looked with spite on me,
And in disgust had turned away
And never set me free,
Instead He simply loved me,
Should I not do the same?
Shine forth a kinder spirit
If I wish to wear His name

We all are sinful creatures
So prone to make mistakes,
But we must never seek revenge
No matter what it takes,
But just as Christ shows mercy,
We must show mercy too,
Forgive and love each other
As He would have us do
