The Beam of Pride!

by Deborah Ann Belka

One day I looked in the mirror,
and I was shocked at what I saw
for I had not laid eyes on it before
but now I could see the fatal flaw.

How long it had been there,
I really didn't know . . .
and truthfully I was surprised
it took this long to show.

Now that I am getting older,
my eyesight isn't very good
but there it was looking at me
right there where I stood.

It wasn't a pretty sight,
in others I have noticed it
yet I never thought in my own eye
it would ever fit.

But, there it was staring at me,
it was as long as it was wide . . .
and on it these words were written
"This is the beam of your own pride!"

Matthew 7:3-5
King James Version

"And why beholdest thou the mote that is
in thy brother's eye, but consider
not the beam that is in thine own eye?"
