Our Fight With The Flesh

by Deborah Ann Belka
https://poetrybydeborahann.wordpress.com

Jesus came not to condemn,
but to save us from our sin
to free us from the bondage
of the lust that lives within.

But, the flesh ~ fights the spirit,
as it works its way into our life
and the lusts of this world
brings upon us ~ spiritual strife.

The works of the flesh are clear,
they are all written in the Bible . . .
and so many of them are difficult
for us to tame or to even bridle.

But you have got to stay away,
form sexual immortality of any kind
and jealousy, envy, or indignation
must not fill your heart and mind.

You mustn't bow to any other god,
or practice magic with an evil host
and all your drinking and carousing
mustn't be how in this life you coast.

You must put away your contention,
all your anger and your wrath
and all of your selfish ambitions
you must send packing down the path.

The sins of the flesh are written,
for every eye to see . . .
and we must repent of them
if in heaven, we want to be.

Galatians 5:19-21
King James Version

"Now the works of the flesh are
manifest, which are these; Adultery,
fornication, uncleanness,
lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft,
hatred, variance, emulations,
wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Envyings, murders, drunkenness,
revellings, and such like: of the
which I tell you before, as I have
also told you in time past, that they
which do such things shall not inherit
the kingdom of God."
