In Name Only

by Deborah Ann Belka

Some say they are Christians
but it's in name only . . .
and one day they will wake up
to find that they are truly lonely.

Then they will understand,
to be a Christian it takes more
than waking up on a Sunday
and walking thru the church's door.

Some say they belong to Jesus,
but they share no intimacy
and the Word that they feed on
is the same milk of their infancy.

For if, they were to hear the meat,
they would choke on its sinew
as it would expose their every sin
and their skepticism would shine thru.

Some say they're attached to Christ,
by their works and good deeds
they brag about, how they go about
taking care of everyone else's needs.

But, they are fast asleep,
and their works to God are dead
for their pride will not allow them
to be filled or Spirit lead.

Some say they love God,
but show Him not a bit of passion
they neither read nor pray
unless they need His compassion.

They are just too busy,
with other things in their life
and they only go to God
when they're in a state of strife.

Some say they are Christians,
only for the name . . .
but, one day they will wake up
and stand before God in their shame!

Matthew 7:21

"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord,
Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of
heaven, but he who does the will of My
Father in heaven. "
