The Pied Piper From Chicago

by Deborah Ann Belka
https://poetrybydeborahann.wordpress.com

Now the pied piper of Chicago,
a few years ago picked up his flute.
And played a mesmerizing tune,
that left most people mute.

The tune was very cleaver,
as he piped his way along.
Even the young schoolchildren,
began to sing his song.

He piped about transparency,
in a land he said was full of haze.
And the people trusted him,
for he had them in a daze.

Now the pied piper from Chicago,
had Saul Alinsky as his radical teacher.
And the Rev. White, "God damn America,"
was his Sunday morning preacher!

He studied hard under them,
and copied all that he had heard.
And piped all their lyrics perfectly,
right down to every single word.

On the road to the White House,
he piped and piped and piped.
All his followers adored and loved him,
and their tears for him they wiped.

The flute must have been magical,
for the piper no one really knew.
For some his tune was Marxist old,
but to most it was something new.

His pipe was full of dreams,
of jobs, and homes, and loans.
But after all the stimulus bills,
he still hears the people's groans.

Some say he is the anti-Christ,
but this I don't believe.
For when the true one comes,
all the people he will deceive.

The pied piper from Chicago,
is only just a peek.
Of the one who is coming,
and this man I do not seek.

Do you hear what I hear,
or are you still deaf and mute?
If not then this November,
give the piper's people the boot!
