By His Stripes . . .

by Deborah Ann Belka

If He abased and humbled Himself,
they why don't we hold Him in esteem?
If He was obedient even unto the cross,
they why won't His salvation we redeem?

If He bore His own grief and sorrow,
then why don't we think He'll take ours?
If He took upon Himself our punishment
then why don't we see the scars?

If He was wounded for our transgressions,
they why do we still pursue after sin?
If He was bruised for our iniquities,
they why does immorality still win?

If His chastisement became our peace,
then why do we still have so much conflict?
If by His stripes, we have been healed,
then why do we on others ~ pain inflict?

If He was oppressed and treated unfairly,
then why do we still treat Him this way?
It must be true what the Bible tells us,
all of His sheep . . . have gone astray!

Isaiah 53:5
King James Version

"But he was wounded for our
transgressions, he was bruised for our
iniquities: the chastisement of our
peace was upon him; and with his
stripes we are healed."
