Pierced!

by Deborah Ann Belka
https://poetrybydeborahann.wordpress.com

Pierced by our sins,
afflicted with their pain
the Son of God dies
for our eternal gain.

Crushed and rejected,
bearer of our sickness
His stripes are a display
of grace and forgiveness.

Stricken and cut down,
all our iniquities taken
the Healer of humanity
hangs dying and forsaken.

Bruised but not broken,
Jesus lives on today . . .
but the world from Him
still turns the other way.

Pierced and afflicted,
for eternities gain
Jesus nailed to the cross
Oh, think of the pain!

Isaiah 53:4-6
King James Version

"Surely he hath borne our griefs, and
carried our sorrows:yet we did esteem
him stricken,smitten of God, and
afflicted. But he was wounded for our
transgressions,he was bruised for our
iniquities:the chastisement of our peace
was upon him;and with his stripes we are
healed. All we like sheep have gone
astray;we have turned every one to his
own way;and the Lord hath laid on him
the iniquity of us all."
