Our time on earth was arduous,
Built out of love, yet also pain;
Unknown to us just how fleeting
Moments with you were to remain.
Often our years seemed to be spent
Hidden inside a fort of walls;
With feelings both of us inflamed
By not allowing them to fall.
Regret soon bursts right through the cracks,
When of that fateful day arrives;
The one in which a single call
Uproots, at some point, all our lives.
Heartache rolls in, then runs abound,
Of memories we will not share;
All the "What Ifs?" lacquer a soul,
While each "If Only" steals our air.
Though both these questions overwhelm,
There is something to help us through;
A single gift given by God,
Knowing our time with each renews.
For life we live here upon earth
Is but a spec He does provide;
Eternity our future holds,
With loved ones on the other side.
My wish, until we meet again,
Is one wrapped up solely in grace;
That as we walk this path of grief,
Solace be found in His embrace.
Therefore time left should now reflect
Upon what treasures they did bring;
For love outweighs mistakes each made,
Forgiveness heals - it's a heart thing.
