Lazy Sunday

by Dave Mudford © 2019

Awakening with nothing you have to do,
deciding on a whim where the day should go,
selfish indecision or helping out a mate,
you get to choose what is on your plate.

Walking along the shoreline, or sleeping on the bed,
reading the paper, or a novel that thrills in what is said,
playing with the family dog, or resting without thought,
keeping up with the latest fashion, glee in what is bought.

Kicking the ball with the kids, not caring of the skill,
special occasions splurge, with Dad picking up the bill,
capturing the beauty, on canvas or with a photo taken,
all maybe all alone, with a focus that cannot be shaken.

Sunday is a time that can be special to us all,
but sometimes in the quiet, we are reminded of our fall,
lonely doubt resurfaces, time reflecting on ourselves,
intentions of a Saviour, left now on our shelves.

Worship of the Father, should be the nucleus of our day,
acknowledging His goodness, needs to be the heart of our play,
resting in God's refuge, is not a lazy thing to do,
but a great way, to spend a lazy Sunday through.
