Jesus, the Stairway to Heaven

by Karen Stringfield

The mirror reflects a weathered face.
Deep wrinkles of wisdom and grace.
Past mistakes float away like fluttering snow.
Errors not remembered from so long ago.

Peace envelops the body from head to toe,
A whirlwind surrounds and lifts the soul.
A glittering stairway to heaven revealed,
Steps to the Father suddenly surreal

As you ready yourself to say goodbye to earth
You will realize what Jesus' death is worth.
Family will grieve their loss of your presence
If they look closely, they might glimpse your essence.

Crying on earth for the one that is gone
A normal reaction when someone passes on.
On the other side of the curtain of death
Is a crowd of excited people holding their breath.

Family waiting patiently for you to arrive,
Suddenly Jesus is at your side.
Arms outstretched - you have nothing to hide.
He ushers you into your inheritance home
And lets you know you will never be alone.
