Heart of an Elder

The weight of care descends on my heart
wounding, filling my heart with beauty,
connecting me to the Father's heart
where love becomes my only duty.

Guiding the flock with a servant heart
resting in the refuge found in God's grace,
learning what shepherding means to my heart
leaning into Christ, His strength to embrace.

Surrendering, having a Kingdom heart
not knowing answers, but knowing my Christ,
laughing, crying, living life from the heart
authentic sharing, into God's ways, entice.

Not impressing others, to win their hearts
but leading by dying to myself first,
showing compassion and directing hearts
to Jesus, who will satisfy all thirst.
