The Stillness - The Dark of This Night

by Kristine Stanton © 2024

The stillness of the dark this night—
the sky as black as coal—
the quiet that embraces me
brings peace that feeds my soul.

The stars are missing from the sky—
they're hidden from my view.
A lunar eclipse taking place
cast shadows of dark hue.

With awestruck eyes I watch this scene
bewildering my eyes.
As the Earth obscures the moon,
and moves through darkened skies.

And while this black night journeys on,
the sunlight makes its way.
Through dusky skies it pierces through,
expanding its warm rays.

This day and all the days to come,
God watches from above,
and shines His face upon Earth
with mercy, grace, and love.

"God be merciful unto us, and bless us;
and cause his face to shine upon us."
(Psalm 67:1, KJV)
