Portrait of Heaven

by Karen Stringfield © 2016

Our soul is surrounded by the shadow of your graceful wings.
You protect us from the dreadful fear of so many things.
A glorious mansion has been meticulously prepared.
Jesus, our Savior, pounded each nail with precise care.

Riches of his grace are abundantly showered on heaven's grounds,
In hopes of a sweet continued relationship with him abound.
Heavenly hosts dressed in sparkling white
Surround the gates inlaid with shimmering pearl day and night.

A rainbow of varied shades of emerald on display
Welcome you into your home on high today.
Crystal fountains as clear as a sea of glass
Provide a river of living water between fields of thick silky grass.

Walls made of jasper, ruby, blue sapphires, and many precious gemstones
Sparkle like glitter and surround this heavenly home.
We'll walk on the winding streets made of pure gold
Where there is no more pain and we won't grow old.

Heaven waits for our last earthly breath so the party can begin
The circle will be complete and we will be surrounded by all our kin.
A voice of a great thunder and as gentle as rain
Guides you in and reminds you of his son that was slain.

We bow on our knees before our Savior and King on his throne
And thank him for reminding us that we are never alone.
Jesus died on a wretched cross for your sins and mine.
If you accept this awesome gift so divine,
The keys of the kingdom will be put in the palm of your hand,
Heavenly host rejoice and your entrance will be grand.
