Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego

by Mark Spencer © 2023

A tale is shared in Daniel's holy text,
Of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
Their actions left Nebuchadnezzar vexed,
Into the fiery furnace they'd go!

Nebuchadnezzar set up a statue,
It was a massive golden effigy,
His kingdom was told to give it its due,
When music was heard, they'd all bend the knee!

But Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego
Would worship no other gods but their own!
Their example would let the empire know,
The commands of their king were set in stone!

So into the fire, the captives were cast,
Seven times hotter, the furnace would be.
Their captors killed by the furnace's blast.
The trio unharmed, for their loyalty.

Nebuchadnezzar saw four men within,
Knowing full well that there should have been three!
The fourth seemed to be like the god's own kin,
He called to the trio: "Come out to me"!

He declared the Lord was the God "Most High",
Who took the furnace's power away!
He said: "Those who speak against Him shall die!
Only their Yahweh can rescue this way!"

And Daniel has many stories to tell,
Tales of lions, kings, and beasts of the sea!
Gabrial's warning of the prince of hell,
This is a book filled with prophecy!

But my choice of tales, you already know,
Of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
