Reformation Day Reminder

by Kevin Smead © 2024

Light your pumpkins, wear your mask,
Do the years October task,
All your tactics do employ,
I will not begrudge your joy.

Lay your candy up in store,
Take your children door to door,
Happy memories I recall,
Of just such pleasures every fall.

Plan the festival this year,
The church's fellowship is dear;
Let the children have their fun,
Watch them play and laugh and run.

Hitch the trailer filled with hay,
In the moonlight make your way,
Enjoy your hotdogs and your snacks,
Let the kids fill up their sacks.

But recall this 31st,
(for it needs to be rehearsed)
That the world was in a plight,
After darkness there was light.

For a monk once took a stand,
With a hammer in his hand,
Nailed his thesis to the door,
Words the church could not ignore.

Then the faith began to grow,
Bible truth began to flow,
Many people then relearned
Saving grace could not be earned.

Many still are in the dark,
This year may we light a spark,
As the Gospel we convey,
On this Reformation Day.
